Find Out What Medicine Will Best Meet Your Needs

Traditionally, finding the right medication for improving your psychiatric health involved a frustrating trial and error process. You shouldn’t have to wait for several medications to fail you. Instead, get the information needed to confidently select a compatible medication.

Pharmacogenomic testing (also known as pharmacogenetic testing) is a non-invasive way to learn how your genes may affect medication outcomes. With information about your genes, your psychiatric care provider can help you find the right medicine faster.

River Road Psychiatry believes in offering our patients the best chance at feeling better as quickly as possible. We take a proactive approach to psychiatry by offering an option to test early, not as a last resort. Our pharmacogenomic testing services are available in-person in Richmond, VA as well as virtually to clients all over the United States.

How Does Pharmacogenomic Testing Work?

Pharmacogenomic testing is an efficient and painless way to learn more about how your body may respond to different medications and how your genes may affect medication outcomes.

Your test will be non-invasive and just requires a simple mouth swab that’s then sent in for analysis. There are no needles or finger pricks involved.

The process for testing is straightforward and easy. You can opt to either receive the test at our Richmond office or have it mailed to your home. Once your swab is sent back to the testing company, the results are back in as quickly as two weeks.

River Road Psychiatry partners with Tempus to provide reliable genetics testing for existing patients and those seeking a one-time PGx consultation. Many insurance companies cover the cost (or a portion of) the test and Tempus also has an affordable self pay rate as well as a financial assistance program.

Our PGx Testing Fees Are:

● $85 for the Tempus Pharmacogenomic Test Administrative Fee

● $120 for a Pharmacogenomic Test Review Session (30 minutes, in-person or via telehealth)

Taking a Trusted Scientific Approach to Psychiatry Prescriptions

In order to most effectively and safely prescribe medications, River Road Psychiatry seeks to gain more of your biological knowledge through Pharmacogenomic testing.

Your test results provide insight into pharmacokinetics, which is how your body absorbs, metabolizes and excretes medicine. It also can examine aspects of pharmacodynamics, which pertains to the potential molecular, biochemical and physiological effects of prescriptions on your body.

Each of these areas are impacted by genetic variations. Every person tested has a uniquely diverse ancestry, your genes can vary significantly from people with a different background. Across these diverse ranges, it has been determined that genetic variations can metabolize medications differently.

Knowing more about your specific genetic makeup can inform how a psychiatric care provider selects and doses your medications. By testing, you’re given valuable insight into your genetic variations.

Gather helpful facts and insight to help you find a better mental health treatment today. River Road Psychiatry offers high-quality PGx testing to increase your likelihood of finding the right medicine.
